Balayage is freehand work. A colourist paints the lightener on by hand, so the result looks like the sun caught your hair rather than a foil grid. Marrakech light is flattering and unforgiving at once, so placement matters. She reads your hair in the actual daylight you will be photographed in, on the terrace or by the window, and paints to that. You talk through how light you want to go before she starts, and you pay once it is rinsed, toned and dried.

Balayage is the painted, scattered lightness that grows out softly. Ombre is a stronger fade from dark roots to light ends. Most people want a mix, brighter around the face and deeper underneath, and the colourist tailors it to your hair and your skin in Marrakech daylight. The artist we send is a colourist, not a generalist. She brings professional lightener and toners, mixes to your hair on the spot, and protects the room while she works. If your hair has old box dye or last summer's highlights, tell us when you book so she arrives ready for it. Lightening is chemistry, and the person doing it knows the chemistry.
Plan it before a wedding or a long trip
Colour takes time, so do not leave balayage to the morning of an event. A few days ahead is the sweet spot: the tone settles and you get time to live with it before the day. Brides marrying in the Palmeraie or a medina riad often do a colour run before the trial for hair and makeup, so every piece is decided in good time.
What to expect, and how to book
Set aside a good part of the afternoon. Painting, processing, rinsing, toning and a blow-dry add up, usually two to four hours depending on length and how light you are going. Send your hair details and a photo of the look you want when you book, and the colourist arrives ready. There is no deposit, and you pay once you have seen it dry in the mirror.

- Is balayage better than foils for my hair?
- For a soft, sun-touched, low-maintenance look, yes. Because the colourist paints it on freehand there is no hard regrowth line, so it grows out gracefully and you can go longer between sessions, handy when you are travelling.
- Can you work on dark or previously dyed hair?
- Usually, but tell us the history when you book: box dye, henna and old highlights all change how hair lifts. The colourist brings the right products and will be honest about what is safe to do in one sitting.
- How long will it take?
- Two to four hours as a rule, depending on length and how much lighter you want to go. She brings everything; you just need a plug and a basin or shower nearby.
- When do I pay?
- After the service, once your colour is rinsed, toned, dried and you are happy with it. No deposit to book, and you can pay in cash or by card.
